Elizabeth Rodriguez is a bicultural Mexican American who believes in the promise of the American Dream. Her photographs and video work address issues surrounding women in Western European artistic tradition. In her photographs, she crossed the border daily to gain access to educational opportunities. Among her large-scale photographs are Lalla Essaydi: Photographs, 2005-2013.
Shine Takeda’s Behind Inscription will be featured in the community gallery of the New Americans Museum. This site-specific installation incorporates 113 individual stories, spanning 54 miles of thread. It includes documentation on the conceptualization and weaving processes. Guests will have the chance to view a time-lapse video of the weaving process. An exclusive retrospective of Takeda’s work will be displayed as well.
The Oceanside Museum of Art is a member of the San Diego County Arts Council and the North County Arts Network. The museum is looking for a new executive director. James F. Peck, director of the Old Jail Art Center in Albany, Texas, has been named as the new director of the museum. Previously, he has worked at the National Gallery of Art and the Lux Art Institute.
