De Anza Cove Park is one of the largest parks in Mission Bay. Its large, open recreational area is perfect for families and individuals alike. There are volleyball courts, a picnic area, a playground, and a boat launching ramp. The beach is also lifeguard-protected. It is located at 3000 N Mission Bay Dr, San Diego, CA 92109.
San Diego is known for its beaches and water recreation. Mission Bay Park, located near downtown, is a popular spot for boating, swimming, and sight-seeing. Several waterfront and bay-based attractions are also located in this area, including SeaWorld and LEGOLAND. Many of these facilities are included in the Go City San Diego pass.
A new proposal for redeveloping the area is underway. This updated plan would restore wetlands and improve the health of the bay. In addition to 26 acres of open park land, the proposal would include six acres of swimming beaches, 38 acres of upland dunes, and 60 acres of recreational areas.
Some of the features of the proposal include passive and active regional parkland, low-cost visitor accommodations, and a small non-motorized boat lease area. The project also includes strategies to help deal with climate change, as well as a focus on nature-based solutions to sea level rise.
Environmentalists are happy about the latest proposal. According to Andrew Meyer, director of conservation at the San Diego Audubon Society, the redevelopment of the cove will bring the bay closer to its natural state. He praised the proposed project’s emphasis on wetlands restoration. However, he expressed concern that expanded marshlands could affect athletic fields.
The proposal is part of a settlement with the Regional Water Quality Control Board. The city has been studying long-term land use plans for the cove. They expect to release a draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) in the second half of 2023. While many of the details have not yet been worked out, officials have confirmed that the parking lot will be removed. Another great resource can be found here.
The park is surrounded by numerous streets that provide plenty of parking. In addition, there are free, private lots that can be used. There are also several bus stops nearby. If you’re driving, the closest freeway off-ramp is less than half a mile away.
A large number of people visited the park during Labor Day weekend. But while the park was packed with visitors, it was clean and pleasant. Life guards were on patrol, and a soft grassy lawn with benches gave a secluded feeling. At the end of the day, a picnic shelter and a small playground were available.
There are also basketball and volleyball courts in the park. Lifeguards are on duty from spring break through October. During these months, dogs are permitted in the park after 6pm. Next SD Article.
